Vass, Roger Lee

Roger Lee Vass, 66, of Lilly Drive, Pembroke, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2014 at his home in the loving care of his family and hospice. Born in Bluefield, WV on February 26, 1948, he was a son of the late Chester Perry and Sylvia Mayes Vass. Roger was a 1966 graduate of Narrows High School, was a welder by trade and retired from RAAP, and was baptized and married at Hales Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a devoted family man, loved his wife, and daughters and grandchildren, and his dog Eddie.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Barbara Ratcliffe Vass; his daughters and sons-in-law Serena and David White of Pearisburg, Robin Vass and Wadie Robertson of Narrows; his grandchildren Karisha Summers of the home who was special to him, Brenda, Keely, Wyatt, and Gracie Robertson, Caleb White; his brothers and sisters-in-law Garrie and May Vass of Summersville, SC, Arnold and Debbie Vass of Newport News, VA; his sister Gayle Furrow of Tampa FL.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Brian Cumbee and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm.
