Vanhoozier, Ralph Boyd

Rev. Ralph Boyd Vanhoozier, 76, of Christiansburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, June 15, 2009, at New River Valley Medical Center. He was born in Tazewell County, Va. on April 16, 1933, to the late William Lee and Josephine Remines Vanhoozier.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Reese Vanhoozier, Charlie Vanhoozier, James Vanhoozier, Eddie Vanhoozier, and one sister, Helen.

Ralph was retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 32 years of service at the Blacksburg downtown post office. He was ordained as a minister in 1981 and pastored at the Midway Community Church, was a member of the Merimac Pentecostal Holiness Church where he taught Sunday School, served as a deacon, and directed Vacation Bible School. Ralph graduated from Christiansburg High with the class of 1952 and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He leaves behind a very good and faithful wife that he loved, Pauline Proco Vanhoozier, who he married August 23, 1957, 52 years ago; one sister, Dorothy Kanode, of Christiansburg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Patricia Proco, of Colfax, N.C.; two precious nephews, Christopher Proco and wife, Melissa, Jay Proco and wife, Tina; very special grandniece, Chloe Proco; Godchildren, Jeff and Ron Linkous; and very special people, Betty and Tuck Barlow, Sharon and Steve Spradlin, Hubert and Lorene Dixon, Diane Simpson, Bobby and Robertine Gravely, Mike and Debbie Whitaker, Doug Rodgers.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glennard Quesenberry and the Rev. Leon Alley officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Friends may call any time after 12 noon Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW.
