Underwood, Dean Russell

Dean Russell Underwood, age 69, of Blacksburg died, Sunday, May 4, 2014, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee and Mary Susan Altizer Underwood, brothers, James W. Underwood, Oscar David Underwood and George L. Underwood, sisters, Geneva Mae Ferbee, Sylvia Marie Shelor, Bessie Pauline Barclay.

He retired from Christiansburg High School after many years of teaching Auto Mechanics and coaching many sports.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jessica Lee Thomas Underwood, his children, Dean Russell, Jr. (Rusty) and Kim Allen Underwood and their children, Jordan, Kaitlyn, Jacob, and Nicholas, all of Midlothian, Va., Barry Lee and Angela Padgett Underwood and their children, Wyatt, Madison, and Annabelle, all of Middleburg, Fl., Jennifer Dawn Underwood and her daughter, Justus, of Blacksburg; sisters, Shirley Martin, Salem, Mary Ruth Webb, Salem, Diane Boothe and husband, Junior, Christiansburg, sisters-in-law, Arlene Underwood, Newman, Ga., Louise Underwood, Fl., numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with the Bishop Scott Hendricks officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.

The family will receive friends from 5-8:00pm Wednesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
