Allie Grubb Pennix Underwood, 82, of Blacksburg, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at her home. She was born in Montgomery County on March 2, 1929, to the late William Kegley and Myrtle Umbarger Grubb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Allen A. Pennix and James Lee (Jim) Underwood Sr.; four brothers, Jackson O. Grubb and wife, Esther, H. Willard Grubb and wife, Minnie, William W. Grubb, and Lawrence E. Grubb; and three sisters, Virginia Grubb Toney and husband, Robert, Iva G. Payton, and Myrtle Lucille Grubb. Surviving are five sisters, Nora G. Price, Iris G. Crump, Glenda G. Gibbs, Dorothy G. Cleary, and Eleanor Hickey; two sisters-in-law, Irene Grubb and Kathleen Grubb; two stepsons, James Underwood Jr. and Robert L. Underwood; six step grandchildren; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews including Evelyn Boyle, Willow Boyle, Aaron McCoy and Dylan McCoy, of the home. At her request, cremation will take place immediately and there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held at Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011, with the Reverend Pete Bain officiating. Interment will be private.
