Umphlett, Edith Hendrickson

Edith Pence Hendrickson Umphlett, 91, of Pembroke and Pearisburg, departed this life Saturday morning, March 8, 2008 at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg.

Born in Giles County on September 20, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Basil and Euna Williams Hendrickson. Edith was a devoted Christian, a member of Pembroke Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, and a member of Pembroke Women’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Eugene F. Umphlett; a daughter, Anita Joyce Martin; a son, Gary Eugene Umphlett, two sisters, Opal Powers, and Betsy Hendrickson; and a brother Arleigh Hendrickson.

She leaves to cherish and love her memory, a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Fred Hosen, of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Rickey and Jane Martin, of Richardson, Texas, Debbie and Eric Perry of Plantsville, Connecticut, Anita and Gary Santa Maria of Farmington, Connecticut, and Michael and Deirdre Hosen, of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Garrett Martin, and Hannah Santa Maria; and a dear and devoted friend, Monica Payne Evans.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke, with the Rev. E. C Redmond and the Rev. Dr. George Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg.
