Conley Austin Umberger, 85, of Pulaski, Va., passed away on Tuesday evening, November 23, 2010, in Lewis Gale Hospital Pulaski. He was born on September 23, 1925, in Pulaski, and was the son of the late Ruth Earls Umberger and Orvill E. Umberger. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Coast Guard; was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church; and was a retired employee of Xaloy with over 20 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Frederick Wayne Umberger and Edward Duncan Umberger; a sister, Mildred Owens; and a brother, Donald Umberger. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Viola Duncan Umberger, of Pulaski: a grandson, Thomas Wade Umberger and his wife, Terri; his mother, Rebecca McCleod and her husband, Michael Donald McCleod, of Dublin: two great-grandsons, Jacob Donald Umberger and Duncan Edward Umberger; and a niece, Ellen Jane Howard. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Grimm officiating. Interment will follow in Thornspring Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday at the church from noon until the 2 p.m. service time.
