Uriah Elbert Turpin, 85, of Floyd left on his heavenly journey Sunday October 14, 2007.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Geneva Turpin; his ten children and their spouses, Ray and Linda Turpin, Roy and Juanita Turpin, Wanda Cox, Bonnie and Jesse Lawrence, Juanita and Joe Salmons, Kathy Adkins, Rita Turpin and James Worrell, Marla and Danny Owen, Teresa and Scott Beard, and Buddy Turpin; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by two sons, Guy Turpin and Garry Joe Turpin.

Uriah was known as a hard working man who made providing for his family his priority, who enjoyed visiting with and helping others throughout the community, and who enjoyed having fun and bringing joy to the young and old alike by always carrying around candy to share.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday October 16, 2007 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Ralph Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Maberry Funeral Home.
