turpin_thornton_hardingThe Rev. Thornton Harding Turpin, 90, of Radford, Va., passed away Friday, December 10, 2010, in Elizabethton, Tenn. He was a member of the East Radford Church of God, the Ministerial Association and Radford VFW Post #776. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry with 30 years of service, a Church of God minister for many years and was a World War II veteran. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth Andrews Turpin, of Radford; son and daughter-in-law, David and Pamela Turpin, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two sisters, Retta Montgomery, of Dublin, Va., and Louise Quesenberry, of Leesburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Goldie Turpin, of Radford; grandchildren, Ashley Lafon and her husband, Greg, and Lora M. Turpin, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2010, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. James Walker and the Rev. Wayne Poston officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society .
