Turpin, Eugene Jackson
Eugene Jackson Turpin, 83, of Pearisburg, departed this life Thursday, April 11, 2013, in the loving care of his family and hospice after a long illness. Born in Pearisburg on August 14, 1929, he was a son of the late George Turpin and Carry Smith Turpin Wilson, and stepson of the late Edward Wilson. He was a retired employee of VDOT, a Christian of the Pentecostal Faith, and a veteran of the United States Army, Korean Conflict. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Ethel Ratcliffe Turpin; his great-grandson, Christopher Riggs; his brothers, Homer and Junior Turpin; and his sisters, Flossie Waldron, LeVern Lafon, and Georgine Donathan. He leaves to cherish his memory his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Diane Turpin, of Mansfield, Ohio; his daughters and sons-in-law, Maggie and Donnie Sadler, of Pearisburg, Connie and David Sexton, of Pearisburg; his brother, Don Wilson, of Pearisburg; his sisters, Mary Sue Lafon, of Pearisburg, Freda Sadler, of Pulaski, and Betty Johnson, of Pearisburg; his 10 grandchildren; and his 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastors Eddie Kendall and Alvin Trivette officiating. Burial will follow in the Staffordsville Cemetery at Staffordsville with military graveside rites by American Legion Posts 311, 68, and 145 and VFW Post 6000.
