Turner, Sr., Roy Anthony
Roy Anthony Turner, Sr. 84 of Narrows went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 20th, 2016. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 27th, 1931 and was the son of the late Thomas Plecker and Alma Rose Turner.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Philip Scott Shirley; and numerous brothers and sisters.
A U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean Conflict, Roy was a retired employee of Brinks, Incorporated and Hercules at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was a faithful member of Kathleen Memorial United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served in many capacities. He was also an avid gardener. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Betty F. Turner; three daughters, Dale T. Smith of Narrows, Mary Lou Turner Shirley and husband Philip of Palmetto, Florida, and Carolyn T. Smith and husband Mike of Blacksburg; one son, Roy Anthony Turner, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Dublin; seven grandchildren, Niki Dalton, Justin Shirley, Brett Smith, Andrew Smith, Todd Turner, Jarid Turner and Jonathan Windle; 17 great-grandchildren, Blake, Brock, Brynn, Madison, Ava, Jule, Aiden, Averi, Jordan, Rachel, Marcus, Easton, Justyce, Mackenzie, Irelyn, Aaliyah and Nevaeh; a sister, Pat Whitehead of Richmond; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 24th, 2016 at 4:30 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Rob Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Posts #68 of Narrows, #311 of Pembroke and #145 of Peterstown. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Saturday from 6 to 8 PM.
