Turman, Alta Marshall

Alta Marshall Turman, 82, of Willis, Va., passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009. She is preceded in death by parents, Stella and Herman Marshall; and also her granddaughter, Allison Turman.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harold Turman; son, Rudy Turman and wife, Patsy; daughter, Judy Witt and husband, Terry; and granddaughters, Amanda Ragone and Scarlett Turman.

She was a teacher of 38 years, beginning at Willis High School until 1962 and then taught the rest of her career at Floyd County High School. She was a devoted member of Willis United Methodist Church. She was also a life member of the Hillsville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She will be missed as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held on 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Josh Kilbourne officiating. Interment will follow at the Joe Turman Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Willis United Methodist Church.
