Trope, Arnold Edgar

Arnold Edgar Trope, age 80, of Riner, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born in Westbury, NY on July 18, 1933 to the late Frank and Ethel Trope. Arnie graduated from Virginia Tech in 1957 with a Masters Degree in Education. After retiring from the Fairfax County School system, he resided at Smith Mountain Lake where he enjoyed boating and entertaining his grandchildren. Arnie had a passion for serving those with heart disease as he organized and served as President of a Mended Hearts support group and a summer camp for children with heart disease. Arnie loved Virginia Tech and Hokie sports, serving as President of Franklin County Hokie Club and Virginia Tech Alumni Association along with membership in the Blacksburg Sports Club and Blacksburg Rotary. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane of Riner; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike Trope and wife Susan of Berwyn, PA, Jim Trope and wife Laura of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Erik Garcia and wife Bethany, James Trope, John Trope, Ethan Trope, Michelle Khay and husband Saber and Stephanie Trope. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11:30 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reggie Tuck officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley, Blacksburg followed by a reception at the Blacksburg Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Methodist Church, PO Box 931, Blacksburg, VA 24063, The American Heart Association, 200 Evans Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073 or a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 am Monday at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
