Mary Ann Townley, 84, of Ripplemead, departed this life Monday morning, September 4, 2017 at her home in the loving care of her family, hospice, and caregivers. Born at Hoges Store on October 9, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Oakley H and Roxie Williams Dowdy. She was retired from the Celanese plant at Narrows with 34 years service. Mary Ann was a graduate of Pembroke High School and was captain of the basketball team. Mary Ann was a devoted Pentecostal Christian, a member Faith Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pearisburg, a faithful mother, loving wife and special Grandmaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jack, Joe, Tic, and Jimmy Dowdy; and her sisters, Betsy Porterfield and Rowena Dowdy. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 61 years, William S. “Bill” Townley; her daughters, Debra Lynn Townley of Ripplemead, Barbara Ann Townley of Ripplemead, and Kathy Jo Townley, of Narrows; her grandchildren, Scotty Lee Detamore and Nathaniel Byson Atwell; her sister, Nancy Sarver of Salem. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday morning, September 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. There will be no visitation time at the funeral home. Mary Ann’s family would like to thank caregivers Joyce Lucas, Ashley Armstrong, Pansy Morris, Danielle Archer, Laura Archer, Beulah Gibson, Frances Thornhill, Melinda Hodge, Terri Mays, Good Samaritan Hospice, and Dr Russell Melton for their loving and professional care.
