Mr. Clarence Olan Tipton Sr., 83, of Union Bridge, Md. (Frederick County), died on Monday, May 9, 2011, peacefully at home. Born on September 12, 1927, in Ocala (Dugspur), Va., he was the son of the late Corbett Alexander Tipton, of Pulaski County, Va., and the late Lizzie Mae Nester of Carroll County, Va.

He was the husband of Tokie Frances Akers Tipton, her husband of 67 years. He was of the First Baptist faith. He retired as superintendent of bridge construction from Dewey Jordan, Incorporated in 1999. He spent a lifetime building bridges in Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland. He enjoyed his family, his Tennessee Walking and Belgian Draft horses, and his herd of Black Angus cattle. He was a member of the American Angus Society. He loved his horses, cattle, cars and trucks.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Clarence Olan Tipton Jr. and wife, Linda, of Union Bridge; and his daughters, Frances Mae Tipton, of Chewsville, Md., Beverly Anne Tipton, of Dugspur, Va., and Karen Lynn Tipton Bishop Magee, of Foxville, Md. He is survived by three sisters, Margaret, Helen, and Janet of Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Doris Lynn Tipton LaQuey, Thomas Zachariah Jeffries, Kimberly Rhonda Thrasher, Shawn Lynn Bishop Thompson, and Clarence Olan Tipton III; and seven greatgrandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, by the Reverend Roy Turpin at the Sifford Cemetery in Parrott, Va.
