Joan Pratt Tillman, of Nashville, Tenn. and formerly of Blacksburg, Va., passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence Pratt; husband, Chauncey G. (Jake) Tillman; and sister, Marjorie Holmberg d’Andrea.

She is survived by children, Janet Tillman (John Blunk) of Aurora, Ill., David Tillman (Donna-Bea) of Clarksville, Md. and Barbara Sitton of Nashville, Tenn.; and granddaughters, Jocelyn Sitton and Justine Sitton of Nashville, Tenn.

Born in Massachusetts, she was a graduate of Middlebury College. She met and married her husband while working for the U.S. Geological Survey in Florida. After Jake finished his education, they moved to Blacksburg, Va. where they raised their family. There Joan spent many years teaching mathematics at Christiansburg High School.

In later life, she enjoyed traveling, visiting China, Tahiti and the Galapagos Islands, among other places. She was an accomplished watercolorist. In 2004, she moved to Nashville to be close to family and made many dear friends in the Cloisters. For a number of years she wintered in Port Richey, Fla. and also leaves many friends there.

A memorial service will be held at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1800 Woodmont Blvd., Nashville, Tenn. on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. with family visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Joan’s name to the American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, Tenn. 37203.
