Tiller, Billy Albert

Billy Albert Tiller, 76, a resident of the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem, formerly of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born on December 31, 1931, to William Lawrence Tiller and Allean Margaret Albert Tiller. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Ann Tiller. A Korean War veteran, Billy was the recipient of the Purple Heart, and numerous other decorations. He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows. He was a caregiver to his mother, as she did give care to him for many years after the war.

He is survived by two sons, Billy Tiller Jr. and wife, Dianna, of South Boston, Va., and Benny Tiller and wife, Karen, of Pembroke; and a daughter, Jeannie Johnston and husband, Kenneth, of Pearisburg; four grandchildren, Cory Tiller, Kristopher and Alicia Johnston and Kayla Tiller; a sister, Myra Tiller Arant and husband, Don, of Lexington, S.C.; and a brother, the Rev. Edwin L. Tiller and wife, Linda, of North Augusta, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Military Rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Post #68 of Narrows and American Legion Post #311 of Pembroke.

The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows.
