Tickle Jr., Charles B.
Charles B. (Buggs) Tickle Jr., 74, of Pulaski, died early Thursday morning, August 21, 2008, at his home. Born April 22, 1934, he was the son of the late Charles B. Tickle Sr. and Stella Webb Tickle. He was also preceded by a brother, Jimmy Tickle.
He attended Wingate College, Pembroke State and Radford University where he received a master’s degree. He also attended the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech for his post graduate work. “Buggs” was a coach and educator with the Pulaski County School system before becoming an agent with State Farm Insurance in 1972. He remained in that position and served the area until the time of his death. During his career he qualified 16 times for the Legion of Honor and Qualified for Travel nine times. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Visitors for New River Community College. He was a longtime member of Pulaski Country Club/Thornspring Golf Club and served on the Board of Directors and was President a number of times. Besides being an avid golfer, during his career he coached football, basketball and golf. His love and support of local and high school sports was a lifelong passion.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Haislip Tickle; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Gina Tickle, of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Chase Ballard and Morgan Rebecca; and brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Helen Tickle, of Pulaski. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008, from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ivey Adams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be given to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.
