Carolyn Atkins Tickle, 73, of Radford, won her battle with cancer on Sunday, April 6, 2014 as she went home to be with the Lord in a place of perfect peace and love. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Atkins, her mother, Mary Atkins Hancock, a brother, Charles “Butch” Atkins, and a sister, Sandra Atkins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Fred Tickle; daughters, Melody (Ed Chumbley) Litchfield, Janean Farley and Melissa (David) Durham; a son, Fred Lee (Millie) Tickle, Jr.; nine grandchildren, Jason Davis, Jon (Amanda) Davis, Chris (Amy) Davis, Ashley (Kevin) Worley, Jessica Durham, Ryan Durham, Matthew Farley, Conlee Tickle and Savannah Tickle; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Charlotte (Barney) Meredith and Annette (John) Tinley.

She was a strong, loving, giving woman. Her joy was her family, and she sacrificed her time and energy to the people she loved. Her faith gave her strength and comfort during her long fight with cancer.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carilion Hospice and her primary nurse, Venessa Coake. Also, special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers who made Mom’s last days more comfortable.
