Thornton, Jr., William Thomas

William Thomas Thornton, Jr., age 75, better known as “Tinker” to all who knew him, passed away on Tuesday June 19th, 2018. Born April 20, 1943, in Glen Lyn, VA, he was the son of the late Nannie Dunn Thornton and William Thomas Thornton, Sr.

Tinker had a love for music and entertainment since a young age. His musical talents enabled him to travel and perform for thousands over the years. Although music never stopped being a passion for him, in recent years he has referred to himself as the “Mow Man” of Peterstown. He could often be seen zooming around town on his Dixie Chopper and recognized by his trademark white ponytail. Tinker loved Jesus, making others smile, and the “New River, Jack”. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, a member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge in Princeton, WV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Lee Thornton, and one sister, Boni Thornton Kirk. Survivors include four sons, Thumper Thornton of Peterstown, WV, Tommy Thornton of Oxon Hill, MD, Billy Thornton, and Chris Thornton; one daughter, Suzanna Whitley and husband Michael of Oakvale, WV; one sister, Roni Sue Butler; several grandchildren; and his dearest friend, Betty Mann.
