Dolores Bishop Thornton, 79, of Radford, peacefully went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 12, 2015. She was a very active member of Central United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees. She spent her lifetime counseling and teaching in church as well as the public school system.

Dolores was born in Radford, the daughter of the late Norris C. and Josephine H. Bishop. She earned her Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Radford College

Survivors include her husband, Walter P. Thornton of Radford; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn T. and Robert R. McCanna of Madison Heights, Cynthia J. Thomas of Blacksburg, and Angela T. and Barry P. Jones of Bethlehem, N.H.; sister and brother-in-law, Dena B. and Capt. Carter T. Gill of Troutville; brother, Norris C. Bishop, Jr. of Covington: Grandchildren, Bryan McCanna, Robert McCanna, II, Amelia Davis, Olivia Davis, Preston Jones and Franconia Jones; great grandchildren, Kyler, Alexandra, Camden and Caleb McCanna; special nephews, David Gill and Eric Bishop; special niece, Tara Rock; and many other family members and friends.

Special thanks to the dedicated and loving staff of Radford EMS.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Central United Methodist Church in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Dale Gilbert, Rev. Don Shelor, and Danny Nettleton officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
