Sherman Lee Thompson, Jr., 81, of Shady Grove, New Florence, Penn. died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indian, Penn. He was born August 29, 1924 in Pulaski, Virginia and was the son of the late Sherman Lee Thompson, Sr. and Lula Mae Guynn Thompson Hendricks.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in W.W.II, and the Korean War, was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Pittsburg, Penn., a member of the Masons Grand Lodge of Chillicothe, Ohio, and an active member of the Chapel of Hope Church in Blacklick, Penn. Sherman was a kind and gentle person, always willing to do for others.

He is survived by his lovely wife, Dorothy Jane Hill Thompson; a son, Randy Lee Thompson and his wife, Jo Ann of Richmond, Va.: three stepdaughters, Mary Jane Jones Kramer and her husband, Brian of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tracy Jones Todorick and her husband, Doug of Stoystown, Penn., Tina Jones Olliver and her husband Larry, Jr. of New Florence, Penn.; two stepsons, John William Jones of Seward, Penn. and Charles Jones of Blainsville, Penn.; one sister, Alberta Ayers Bower of Pulaski; one brother, Lilburn Owen “Bud” Thompson and his wife, Joyce Gallimore of Pulaski. He is also survived by two granddaughters; eight stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday August 8, 2006 and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday August 9, 2006 a the Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home in Armagh, PA. The family also received friends Thursday at the Chapel of Hope Church in Blacklick, Penn. where the Rev. Gerald D. Mershimer officiated. Interment followed in the Penn View Mt. Tabor Cemetery in New Florence, Penn. with full military honors conducted by “The Dedicated Old Veterans of the New Florence Area, New Florence, PA. Obituary courtesy of Thomas M.
