Thompson, Ruth Mae Long

Ruth Mae Long Thompson, 86, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, August 18, 2013, at the Berkshire Health Care Center in Vinton. Mrs. Thompson was born on February 21, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Conrad Johnson Long and Minnie Leigh Anderson Long.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene Thompson Jr.; three sisters and two brothers. She had retired from Elizabeth Arden in Roanoke and had worked as a clerk for the Salvation Army and was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Roanoke. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Roger Allen and Kay Thompson, of Roanoke, one granddaughter, Kim Thompson, of Roanoke, one grandson, Gene Thompson and wife, Nicki, of Roanoke, and three great-grandchildren, Allie, Daphne, and Avery. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, with burial following in the Mountain View Cemetery on Guinea Mountain, Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 20, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg. Obituary can be viewed at givensfuneralhome.com.
