Mercedies (Bobbie) Baird O’Dell Thompson passed from this earth to go to her heavenly father on June 9, 2012. Bobbie was living with her son Rocky and his wife, Kathy O’Dell in Hiwassee, Virginia when she passed away. They along with Hospice, Irene Clark and Brenda Edwards cared for her in a warm loving home.

She was born as Mercedies Mae Baird to the late Robert Baird of Miami, Arizona and Mammie Davis of Pulaski, Virginia on March 12, 1931. Her father wanted a boy so he called her “Bobbie and for the rest of her life she was “Bobbie”.

Bobbie leaves behind her two grown sons, Keith(Dusty) O’Dell and his wife, Shirley of Nokesville, Virginia and Dana “Rocky” O’Dell and his wife, Kathy of Hiwassee, Virginia. Her daughter Kaye and her husband, Larry Perry predeceased her. Grandchildren- Kimberly, April and Kristina Perry of Sterling, VA; Sherry and Kelly O’Dell of Nokesville, and Logan and Malachi O’Dell of Hiwassee. Four great Grandchildren, Allison Michael,& Alyx O’Dell and Kaitlyn Perry. One Brother, Robert (Buddy) Baird of Charleston and one Sister ,who predeceased her, Janie Quesenberry.

Bobbie was a good Christian woman with strong faith. She devoted her life to raising her family and raised them to have strong moral compass along with a Christian faith. She was a homeroom mother several times and liked to host parties. While living in Herndon, Virginia, she became a member of the Eastern Star. In the late sixties, she was elevated to Worthy Matron, which was quite an accomplishment. She loved her life there and enjoyed cooking for her family. She made the world’s best chocolate crème and coconut pies that were lip smacking good.

Funeral services will be Tuesday 7:00 P.M., June 12, 2012 at the Max Creek Baptist Church, Pulaski with Rev. J. B. Shelton and Pastor Mike Coleman officiating. A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 6:30 P.M. at the Max Creek Baptist Church, Pulaski prior to the service time at the church.
