Mac Arthur Thompson, 65, of Glen Lyn, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Salem.

He was born on March 9, 1942 and was the son of the late Arthur Gordon and Dewie Holdren Thompson. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by two sisters; five brothers; and a very special friend, Robert (Spoon) Barlow.

A veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, Mac later built and operated Lil’ Mac’s Grocery in Glen Lyn. An avid musician, Mac played bass guitar in the Virginia Rebels band for 15 years. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead for 12 years and loved to garden.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marilyn Farewell Thompson of Glen Lyn; one daughter and her husband, Priscilla and Ricky Weatherly of Narrows; a sister, Mary Sue Dodson of Danville, Va.; and a very special mother-in-law, Dorothy Farewell of Glen Lyn.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.

The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Chapel on Saturday starting at 12 noon.
