Thompson, John E.
John Ephriam Thompson, 90, of Pearisburg, died Sunday morning, June 10, 2012, at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek. Born in Bane, Giles County on August 3, 1921, he was a son of the late Fred Cunningham Thompson Sr. and Molly Jane Woodyard Thompson.
He was a member of the 1940 graduating class at Pearisburg High School (the first in the new High School building), was retired from the Celanese Celco Plant, was a veteran of the United States Army, World War II, and was a life member of the American Legion and VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Juanita; his son, Jack Thompson; his daughter, Lois Jane Davis; his brother, Joe Thompson; and his sisters, Lucy Martin and Nancy Harrell. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas R. and Charlotte Thompson, of Richmond, John F. and Janice Thompson, of Pembroke, Dolores Thompson, of Pearisburg; his daughter, Iretta Faye and husband, Danny Benafield, of Little Rock, Ark.; his brother, Jack Thompson, of Salem; his sister, Pat Whittaker, of Princeton, W.Va.; his eight grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Charles and Judy Dent, of Peterstown, W.Va., Vickie Faulkner, of Wikle, W.Va., Connie and Raymond Austin, of Clifton Forge; his eight stepgrandchildren; and his 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Graveside military rites will be performed by local American Legion and VFW Posts.
