Gladys Dickerson Thompson, 96, formerly of Floyd, died on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Kingswood Nursing Center, Aberdeen, N.C. She was born on April 16, l915, in Patrick County, Va., to the late Charles and Martha Dickerson.

She was a long-time resident of Floyd, Va., until May, 2004, when she entered Wheatland Assisted Living in Radford, Va. In August, 2006, she was moved to Kingswood Rehab & Nursing Center in Aberdeen, N.C., to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Carole T. and Leonard Barnard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayborn McCoy Thompson; her son, Ronald James Thompson; and greatgranddaughter, Jessica Mychael Danieley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole T. and Leonard Barnard, of Seven Lakes, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Joyce H. Thompson, of Christiansburg, Va.; granddaughter, Deborah and husband, Michael Danieley, of Radford, Va.; granddaughter, Sherri and husband, Jody Vaughan, of Radford, Va.; five greatgrandchildren, Matthew, Nathan and Laura Grace Vaughn, and Kelsey and Tyler Danieley, of Radford, Va.; one sister, Claudia Nancy Sirois, of Toronto, Canada; and numerous nieces, nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

Gladys’s greatest joy was spending time with her own family, her church family and close friends. She will be remembered for her delicious pound cakes she made for her family and the church bazaars. She was an avid gardener and always had a vegetable garden and flower garden until her health failed at age 89. She was especially known for her beautiful quilts which are treasured by her immediate family and many that were purchased by persons who admired her talent.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd, Va. The Funeral Service will be held in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011, with Pastor Rich Mullan officiating. Burial to follow in the Topeco Cemetery. Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines, N.C., and Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, Va., served the family.
