Thompson, Geraldine Hicks
Geraldine M. Thompson entered eternal rest on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Her life was a testament to kindness, strength, and devotion to her family and friends. Geraldine was born in Pearisburg, Va to the union of the late Harvey and Mary Hicks.
She spent her early years surrounded by the love of her siblings and family. She graduated from Bluff City High School and attended Morristown College in Morristown TN.
Gerald, as she was affectionately known, was a devoted mother and grandmother, always putting her family first. She was supportive and provided guidance to those connected to her. Gerald was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gerald never met a stranger. She possessed an aura that attracted people to her. Her deep concerns for others, and the kind words she shared uplifted people she met. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and her unwavering faith in God.
This loving mother and grandmother expressed her love of life through singing (Gospel Lights, First Baptist Pearisburg Senior Choir director and Willing Workers), cooking, creating floral designs, and was an avid sports fan. For those who knew her, she was always fashion forward, from the top of her head to the soles of her feet.
Gerald was preceded in death by her brothers Bobby Jean Hicks, Roger Harvey Hicks and her daughter, Gerald Von Swain. She is survived by her loving daughters Karen Greene (Rich) and Kymberli Thompson of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Gabrielle Thompson of Roanoke, VA, Richard Greene of Chesapeake, VA, Jessyca Greene of Lexington Park, Maryland and Jalil Hayes of Roanoke, VA; great-grandchildren, Jayden and Damien Saunders of Roanoke, VA; sisters, Betty Alexander, Caroline Tolliver (Eddie), Janice Cooper (Jimmy); brother, Michael Hicks (Connie); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gerald will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in our hearts.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, 2:00PM at Serenity (126 Gilmer Ave location). The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service. Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
