Thomas, Opal Violet Roop
Opal Violet Roop Thomas, 83 of Narrows, gained her angel wings at home in the loving care of her family on Tuesday, July 25th, 2017. She was born in Grayson County, Virginia on September 14, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Howard and Gracie Blevins Roop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Irvin Thomas, Jr.; a son, Anthony Wayne Thomas; and two sisters, Peggy Hamm and Blanche Powers.
She was a longtime employee of McDonald’s on Lee Highway in Bristol, Virginia, where she was a biscuit maker. She was also active in Feeding America in Abingdon, Faith in Action in Abingdon, past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW in Bristol, Tennessee. She was also a member of Hale’s Chapel United Methodist Church. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
Left to cherish her memory are a son, Zane Thomas and wife Donna; three great grandsons, Michael, Jayson, and Shaine, all of the home; six grandchildren, five additional great grandchildren; five sisters; one brother and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 29th, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows officiated by Pastor W.R. Johnston and Pastor Barbara Weatherly. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 noon until just prior to the service. At her request, Opal Violet was cremated. Burial of cremains will be held Saturday at 4:00 PM at the Old Baptist Cemetery on Forest Hill Drive in Glade Spring, Virginia with Rev. Jack Sprinkles officiating.
