Daisy DeWitt Thomas, 99, of Floyd, Va., passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Richfield Retirement and Recovery Center in Salem. She was born on April 30, 1911, a daughter of the late S.Z. and Maggie Vest DeWitt.

“Miss Daisy” was a retired school teacher having nearly 40 years with the Floyd County Public School System. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Thomas; and nine brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her son, J. DeWitt and Linda Thomas, of Check; and her daughter, Judy T. Hubbard, of Copper Hill. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Frank and Crissie Thomas, Patrick Thomas and friend, Donna Conner, all of Copper Hill, Laura and Jason Conner, of Check, and Cory D. Hubbard of Fairlawn; three greatgrandchildren, Jaci Beth Thomas, Bradlee Conner and Abigail Thomas; special family friend and caregiver, Betty McCoy and her husband, Joe, of Floyd; sister-in-law, Dorothy Moran DeWitt, of Staunton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Darren Landon and Pastor Dan Walker officiating with interment in the Stonewall Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wood Funeral Home on Friday, October 29, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Floyd County Rescue Squad, the Floyd County Fire Departments or to an organization of your choice.

The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. Garry Kuiken and his staff for the many years of care provided to our Mom. Also our thanks to Southern Care Hospice, Richmond Retirement and Recovery Center, Al and Mary Lou Kelley, and our many other friends and neighbors for all the prayers, love and care shown the family.
