Taylor, Anne Shelley

Anne Shelley Taylor, affectionately known as “A.T.,” died in a Charleston, South Carolina hospital on March 7, 2007.

Anne was born in Jackson, Tennessee to Thomas and Eunice Shelley on December 20, 1926. She was a graduate of Jackson High School and Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, and between 1956 and 1968 she worked at Union University in the business office, the Registrar’s office, and as manager of the campus bookstore.

In 1968, she and her husband moved to Radford, Virginia. From 1969 to 1970, she was the secretary at First Baptist Church in Radford, Virginia. She became the Campus Minister at Radford University’s Baptist Student Union in 1970 and was employed in that capacity until her retirement in 1993.

After her retirement, Anne served at New Hope Methodist Church as pianist until 1996. In 1996, she joined her husband at Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship in Pearisburg, Virginia, and headed the music program until 2005. In 2006, Anne and Charles moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where she was a member of Providence Baptist Church until her death.

Anne is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Charles D. Taylor; and one son, Dr. Chuck Taylor, and his wife, Mrs. Cheryl Taylor. She is also survived by a grandson, Dr. Chip Taylor, who teaches at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, and his wife, Mrs. Erica Taylor, and their three children, Walker, Charlie, and Kelly Grey Taylor. Anne is also survived by her granddaughter, Ms. Charlee Taylor, J.D., who teaches at the Florida State University College of Law in Tallahassee, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2007, at First Baptist Church In Radford, Virginia, with the Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Vision Property Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, Third Avenue and Downey Street, Radford, Va. 24141.
