Ray Garland Tate, 72, of the Clendenin Community, Narrows went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, from his home. He was born December 7, 1938, in Rocky Gap, the son of the late Cecil William Sr. and Fay Sarver Tate.

He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Highways with 33 years of service, a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus in Matoaka, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rachel Kast Tate; one son, Benjamin Tate and wife, Lauren; four daughters, Lena Tate, Angela Bonin, Michelle Thorne and husband Michael, Pamela Akers; six grandchildren, Kelsey Tate, Michaela Thorne, Hanah and Kaitlyn Akers, Austin and Marshall Tate; one brother, Cecil William Tate Jr. and wife, Darlene; three sisters, Wanda Hoback, Lois Mann and husband, Floyd, Virginia Booth.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2012, at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate with the Rev. Marvin McKinney officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday after 2 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Military graveside rites at Laurel Fork Cemetery, Rocky Gap by the Narrows V.F.W. Post #6000, Narrows American Legion Post #68, Pembroke American Legion Post #311 and Peterstown American Legion Post #168.
