Paris William Talbert, age 88, of the White Gate Community, Giles County, departed his earthly life on June 17, 2006 following a short illness.

He was born Jan. 30, 1918 at Poplar Hill, Va., and was a son of the late Ribble Ellic and Elizabeth Lane Talbert. He was predeceased by brothers, Jess, James, Neal and Emory; and by sisters Cristal, Mary, Martha, Edith and Frances. A grandson, Wesley Talbert also predeceased him. His beloved wife of 64 years, Bertha Wright Talbert survives him as does his sister, Annie Sink of White Gate.

In addition, he leaves the following children: Paris William Talbert, Jr., and wife Betty of White Gate, Elizabeth T. Miller and husband Earnie of Poplar Hill, Patricia T. Farmer of Dublin, Barbara T. Spangler of White Gate, Michael Talbert and wife Joyce of Poplar Hill and Danny Talbert of Dublin.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paris was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a long time member of Walker’s Creek Baptist Church, Shady Grove Methodist Church and the White Gate Ruritan Club. He retired in 1980 from Hercules, Radford Army Ammunition Plant and had since enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening and farming.

He never met a stranger and was a man known for hard work, frugality, common sense and very unusual sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by family and the community.

Funeral services will be held at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Poplar Hill on Monday, June 19th at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Monroe and the Rev. Brad Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Walker’s Creek Cemetery, Inc., White Gate.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 18th from 6 to 8 p.m. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Shady Grove Methodist Church at Poplar Hill.
