Sweeney Jr., Oscar Roy

Oscar Roy Sweeney Jr., 85, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 2, 2012. He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Sweeney; father, Oscar Roy Sweeney Sr.; and son, Mark Daren Sweeney. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Nell Gardner Sweeney; son, Phillip Dwayne (Linda Renee) Sweeney; sister, Margie (Roger) Shortt; grandchildren, Bradley David (Nicole Allene) Sweeney, Brandon Dale Sweeney, Anastasia Adair Sweeney, and Axel Phillip Sweeney; great- grandchildren, Shawn Lee Hypes, Bradley Cameron Sweeney, Nathaniel Oscar Sweeney, and Brycen Russell Sweeney; very special friends, Doris Jones, and Fred and Carol Walters; as well as several nieces and nephews. Oscar served in the United States Army for two years. He has owned and drove trucks for 70 years, traveling all over the United States. Oscar was also a big NASCAR fan. The family will receive friends at Auburn Baptist Church, 3840 Riner Road, Riner, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012, at Auburn Baptist Church with Pastor Shake Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
