Jack Alvin Sweeney, age 78, of Blacksburg died, Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Lewis-Gale Hospital Montgomery. He was born in Virginia on July 4, 1937 to the late John Walker and Lelar Lovern Sweeney.

He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Virginia Keister; K-9 companion, Baby Gruff; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Daniel Sult; son, Dennis Sweeney and Regina Worrell; grandchildren, Melissa “Missy” Merrix and husband Michael, Carmen Sweeney, April Sult, and Rachel Sult; great-grandchildren, Savannah Thompson, Hunter Merrix, Gracie Merrix, Hallie Merrix, McKenzie and Kirsten Brillhart; great-great-grandchildren, Jalyn and Bryson Thompson; sisters and brother-in-law, Garnett and Fred Linkous, Louise McCoy, and Betty Mac Sweeney; brother and sister-in-law, John and Pat Sweeney; and special friends, Bert and Jessie Dowdy.

Special thanks to Dr. Harry McCoy and his staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care for the care given to Jack.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, Va.
