Maynard (Jiggs) Ernest Sutphin, 81, of Pulaski, died Monday, September 10, 2018 at Highland Ridge Rehabilitation Center. Maynard was born January 14, 1937, in Pulaski County, the son of the late Edith Sirt Sutphin and Tazwell Ellett Sutphin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Emory, Vernon, Everett, and Phillip Sutphin; and sister Mildred Sutphin Spencer Blankenship.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna Conner Sutphin; son Steven Sutphin and daughter-in-law Caroline of Louisville, KY; daughter Tamara Sutphin of Pulaski; sister Betty and brother-in-law Willis Wagner of Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law Barbara Witt of Alabama; many members of his extended family; favorite puppy Max and Orange the Cat.

The family would like to thank Bill McMillan for his many kindnesses and assistance during Maynard’s long illness.

Maynard served in the United States Navy. He was very proud of his service to our country and always enjoyed talking about his travels and experience in the military.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Seagle Funeral Home, with the Reverend Judy Yonce officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will be scheduled at a later date at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the nursing staff at Highland Ridge Rehabilitation Center for their kind and excellent care. Burial will be at the Southwest Virginia Veterans’ Cemetery, Dublin, VA.
