Sutphin, George Abram

George Abram Sutphin, 82, of Floyd, VA, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 1, 2014. George was a longtime employee of Herzog Construction where he helped build multiple railroad transit systems across the United States including the Metrolink Mass Transit System in Los Angeles, California. He loved life and his family, and was always willing to help anyone he encountered. He will be greatly missed on this earth by his family, but is finally at rest and healthy and whole with his Father in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Sutphin; his daughter, Vanessa Mays of Christiansburg, VA; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Nacol Sutphin of Roanoke, VA. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joli Huyhn and husband, Thai Huyhn of Christiansburg, VA; Kim Wade of Narrows, VA; and great-grandchildren, Emma King and Noah Sutphin. He has one surviving brother, Wilton Sutphin of Floyd.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Cannaday Cemetery on River Ridge Road, Floyd, VA. Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
