Sutphin, Everett Ewing

Everett Ewing Sutphin, 86, of Pulaski, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning, May 30, 2008 in Pulaski Community Hospital.

He was born August 14, 1921 in Pulaski and was the son of the late Victoria Jane Duncan Sutphin and Posey Lee Sutphin. He grew up in Pulaski where he began his work career, driving a cab. He was a long-time employee of Klopman Mills, and was a faithful member of the Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church, where he and Roberta loved reading and studying the Word of God and participating in church activities, and enjoyed serving as a former trustee. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and Popie to his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, trips to the Outer Banks in North Carolina, planting a large garden and woodworking. Everett had been in declining health for the last year.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Sutphin, and Worley “Cullen” Sutphin, and sisters, Leta Ritter, and Treva Gibson. Those left to cherish his memory and look forward to meeting him again in Heaven, include his beloved wife of 66 years, Roberta Lee Hedrick Sutphin; sons Everett Lee Sutphin and his wife, Catherine, of Rocky Mount, Va., and Bobby Lynn Sutphin, of Pulaski; daughters, Donna Sutphin Forrester and her husband, Larry, of Roanoke, Carol Sutphin Smith and her husband, Stephen, of Blacksburg. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Nenia Sutphin Hodges and husband, David, Judy Sutphin Nunley and husband, Todd, Jody Sutphin Neel, Gregory Matthew Sutphin, all of Roanoke, Teresa Sutphin Shell and husband, Eric of Bedford, Adrienne and Adam Sutphin of Pulaski, Brittany and Chelsea Smith of Blacksburg; four great-grandchildren, Courtney and Stephanie Hodges, of Roanoke, Cody and Clay Shell, of Bedford; and numerous other relatives and close friends.

The family looks forward to greeting friends at the Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church, 6893 Mills Avenue, Fairlawn, on Sunday June 1, 2008 from 6 until 8 p.m.

The service to celebrate Everett’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 at the Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church, with Pastor Lester Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
