Surface, George Hubert

George Hubert Surface, 78, of Blacksburg passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. He was born October 27, 1942 in Tom’s Creek to the late Hubert V. and Christine Orange Surface.

George worked for many years at Corning and then at Federal Mogul in Blacksburg until his retirement in 2005. His favorite past times were hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his sister Joe Ann Criner, of Christiansburg. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 60 years, Peggy C. Surface, daughter, Christine Elizabeth Surface, Blacksburg; sons, Jim (JoEllen) Surface, Christiansburg and John Surface, Lewisburg, WV., four grandchildren, Crystal Irwin, Portland, OR., Amber Surface, Radford; John Surface, Blacksburg and Jaymes Gage Surface, Christiansburg, three great-grandchildren, sister, Janice Cochran, Eggleston, brother, Benny (Reba) Surface, Christiansburg, sister-in-law, Rita (Lynn) Boland, Radford, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11:00 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Jarrells officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service.
