Surface, Bryce Preston (Boonie),

Bryce Preston Surface, (Boonie), 89, left this earthly life to begin his heavenly life while surrounded by his wife, family and friends on Friday May 11, 2012. Proceeding him in death were his parents, James and Irene Surface, sisters, Mary Cruise and Beatrice Cunningham, brothers, Bill Surface, and Hensel Surface. Also proceeding him in death was an infant grandson, Christopher Bowling. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mrs. Wilma Surface, of Christiansburg, formerly of Pulaski; also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Carroll Bowling, of Dublin; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Evelyn Surface, also of Dublin. Papa Boonie was cherished and loved by his grandchildren, Curry Bowling, of Dublin, Natalie and spouse, Randy Quesenberry, of Radford, Sherry and spouse, Bobby Coleman, of Dublin and Cheryl Bowling, of Dublin; as well seven great-grandchildren. Boonie is also survived by his brothers, Harry and Doris Surface, of Pulaski and Earl and Liz Surface, of North Carolina. Boonie was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He came to know many of Pulaski’s residents while working as manager of the Number One drug store owned by a beloved friend, Woodson Cummings. He then served and retired as a postal employee at the Pulaski Post Office. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Pulaski, where he served as an usher for many years. He was active as a Mason in the Pulaski Lodge and a Shriner as well. The family would like to express gratitude to the Wheatland Hills family for the loving care they provided and the Medihealth Hospice nurses. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday May 14, 2012, at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, followed by funeral services at 3 p.m., also at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. In lieu of flowers, individuals may make donations in his memory to the Children’s Ministry Fund at Dublin Baptist Church, Dublin Virginia.
