Sublett, Francie Hungate
Francie Hungate Sublett, 92, of McCoy, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. She was born in Whitethorn, Va. on July 5, 1918 to the late Crockett and Evia Albert Hungate.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 57 1/2 years, Claude E. Sublett. Also preceding her in death was an infant sister, Lucy Virginia; an infant brother, Sherwood Hungate; four brothers, Emmett, Alfred (Buck), Wm. Cloyd and Jack Hungate; one granddaughter, Trenece Sublett-Check.
She is survived by her only child Alfred (Al) and his wife, Kathryn (Kay) Merrell Sublett, of McCoy; two grandsons, Chris Sublett and fiancée, Sherrie Timbreza of Chesapeake,Va., and Michael and Kim Sublett of Springfield, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon and wife Erin Sublett, Tyler Sublett, Ashley Sublett Wertz and husband Robby, twins Jade and Jasmine Johnson Sublett, Wesley Rowley and Amanda Rowley; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law,Tincie H. and Jim Mattox; one sister-in-law, Moleta (Dood) Page Hungate; and several nieces and nephews.
As a young girl, Francie sang in the choir and taught Sunday School at The Church of God in Parrott, Va. She belonged to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County for over 30 years, and received several pins and certificates for her years of service. She was employed at the Blue Ridge Overall Factory in Christiansburg for 15 years and worked for VPI Student Health Center in Blacksburg,
She loved working in her flowers, quilting, and making afghans. Francie was a devoted and the oldest member of Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in McCoy, Va. at the time of her death.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Heritage Hall for their care of Francie during her illness, and the kindness they showed the family during and after her passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at Centennial Christian Church on June 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. Reverands Steven Jumper and Gary McCoy will officiate. Interment will follow in the Centennial Church Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon on June 19, 2011. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
