Stump, Riley Junior

Riley Junior Stump, 83, of Christiansburg, Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at New River Valley Medical Center surrounded by his loving family and pastor. He was preceded in death by a son, Baby Stump; his parents, Claudie Sallie Lovern Stump and William Riley Stump. Dad had great wisdom and knowledge, he was a godly man who always put his family first. He was a hard worker and great provider, and had a PHD from life. Dad was a gentle giant, who never once failed his family. He was a member of the New Hope Church of God and he served God un-shamed. He retired from VDOT after 35 years of service, he was also a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene Lee Craighead Stump; son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Pat Stump; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Delvis Elmore; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Hope Stump, Neal and Carolyn Stump, Ronnie and Carolyn Stump and Joseph (Joey) and Alice Stump, all of Christiansburg, Va.; grandchildren, Matthew Elmore, Lisa Fulcher, Chad Stump, Beth Lucas, Shawn Stump, Deborah Strauss, Samantha Morris, Rebekah Stump, Amy Caswell, Amanda Stump and Brook Stump; 11 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but we know he is in heaven waiting for us. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at New Hope Church of God. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Church of God with the Rev. T. Michael Bond and the Rev. James Walker officiating.
