James Stanley Stuart Jr.,. 63, of Pulaski, Va., passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born June 28, 1945, in Pulaski, he is the son of Hazel Pike Wassum. He was preceded in death by his father, James Stanley Stuart Sr.;. and stepfather, Robert C. Wassum.

He was retired from Northrop Aircraft Corporation in California. He was a volunteer fireman and a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge #75, Los Angeles, Calif.

Surviving are his mother, Hazel Pike Wassum, of Pulaski; daughter and sonin-law, Janet and Gary Harris and daughter, Callie, of Roanoke; son and daughterin-law, Joseph Scott and Meg Stuart and children, Benjamin, Jasper and Heath, of Boston, Mass.; sisters and brother-inlaw, Madelyn S. Rupe, of Loganville, Ga., and Kay S. and John D. Baldwin, of Narrows; stepsister and husband, Dorothy W. and Dayton Courtner, of Marion, Va.; nephews, Gary Rupe, of Loganville, Ga., and Charles Comer, of Dublin; aunt, Faye P. Akers, of Dublin; and many loving cousins and extended family and friends.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008, in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating.

The family wishes memorials in his memory be sent to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Fla. 33607. The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Staff at Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin, Pulaski Community Hospital and Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their special care during his illness.
