Strickler, Winnie Porterfield

Winnie Porterfield Strickler, 86, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, February 8, 2007, at Skyline Manor Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born in West Virginia on May 26, 1920 to the late Frank and Maddie Pauline Porterfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Conway Garfield Strickler, Sr.; brother, Kit Porterfield; sisters, Janey Foley, Loraine Martin, and Illma Pyles.

Mrs. Strickler was a 1942 graduate of Virginia Tech, where she was a member of the Basketball team and the fencing club.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Conway Garfield, Jr. and Karen Strickler, of Blacksburg, Va., David J.F. Strickler and Darlene Conrad, of Blacksburg, Va., Joe Lindsey and Karen Strickler, of Radford, Va.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara West, of Newport, Va., Ruth Dehaven, of Virginia Beach, Va., Joyce Miller, of Florida, Maddie Sue Silver, Mary Ann Walkin, of Kentucky; and brother, Bobby Porterfield, of Newport, Va.

The family would like to thank the staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital and Skyline Manor Nursing Home, of Floyd, Va.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Henderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warm Hearth Village Foundation, 2607 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
