Straub, Mary Elizabeth Brown

Mary Elizabeth Brown Straub, wife of the late Charles Edward Straub Jr. formerly of Christiansburg, died peacefully on Sunday morning, July 8, 2012, at her home in Chestertown, Md. Betty was born in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 1916. She was the eldest daughter of Thomas Richard and Waunetah Tankersley Brown. Betty was predeceased by sisters Waunetah Brown Hall and Charlie Brown Robinson. Betty is survived by one sister, Bertie Brown Markam, Parma, Ohio. She also leaves three children and their respective spouses, Charles Edward III and wife, Lynn, Joseph and wife, Barbara, and Suzanne Moore and husband, Don. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Charles Edward IV and wife, Mary Claire and children, Shannon and Ryan, Erik Stephens and wife, Erin and daughter, Rylee, Stuart and wife, Gina, Ann De Oliveria and husband, Victor and son Liam, Christian, Maggie and Mollie. Betty also is survived by a beloved big yellow cat “Mr. Hobbs”. In 2003 Betty extended her family to include Sarabijit Vilkhu a devoted caregiver and companion until the end. As time progressed the family of caregivers broadened to other special women including those associated with Queen Anne’s County Hospice for who care knew no bounds. We are deeply indebted to Mark and Jane Garver from Seniors At Home for their devotion to our mother. A memorial service will be held at Shrewsbury Parish Church, Kennedyville, Md. on Wednesday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. Interment of ashes will be at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Christiansburg, VA on Saturday July 14 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Shrewsbury Parish Church, PO Box 187, Kennedyville, MD 21645, St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 103 East Main St. Christiansburg, VA 24073 or Queen Anne’s County Hospice, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
