stockton_anne_priceMrs. Anne Price Stockton, of High Point, N.C., died on April 2, 2011, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield. She moved to High Point, N.C. in July of 2010. from Merrywood Assisted Living in Charlotte, N.C. where she lived for ten years. Anne had been a resident of Blacksburg, Va. for 54 years and called it her home. Anne was born on June 7, 1910, in Berryville. She moved to Roanoke, following her high school graduation. She went on to achieve her nursing degree from Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke. Anne practiced nursing at Lewis Gale until 1947, when she moved to Blacksburg with her husband and three daughters. After her husband passed away she worked for a solo private medical practice then later worked at the Virginia Tech infirmary. She was an active member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church and a member of the Women of the Church XYZ Club. Anne was a member of the Virginia Nursing Association and after retirement she volunteered at the Montgomery County Hospital in Blacksburg. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robin Rowe and her husband, Dr. Charlie Rowe, of High Point, N.C., Mrs. Sarah Jane Baker and her husband, Mr. John Baker, of Charlotte, N.C. and Mrs. Betty Petty, of Haymarket, Va.; eight grandchildren, Marianne Petty, of Haymarket, Tom Petty, of Washington, D.C., Aaron and Mickey McDade, of Fairfax, Christi Barbour, of High Point, N.C., Matthew McGinn, of Atlanta, Ga., Sara Rowe, of High Point, N.C. and Charles Rowe III, of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Moffatt, of Arkansas and nine adoring great-grandchildren. Some of her most treasured moments were being surrounded by her family and friends. She adored her grandchildren and especially her nine great-grandchildren. Many of her favorite memories with her own girls were captured on film and it pleased her beyond words to have “movie night” slide-show’s with her grandchildren. Anne’s interests and hobbies included many things: She loved the outdoors, flowers and birds as well as picnics surrounded by those she loved. Spending the majority of her life in Blacksburg, she was a tried and true Virginia Tech fan and loved to watch her beloved “Hokies” play ball. One of Anne’s greatest passions was travel and she had the pleasure of visiting every continent in the world. She was a woman years ahead of her time; compassionate, very independent, self-supporting, smart, strong, loving, a teacher, a leader. A memorial service will be held at the Pennybyrn at Maryfield Chapel on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 1 p.m. A life celebration and memorial will be held at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Va. on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Maryfield for the loving care they gave “Mom” while she was a resident.
