Stike, Jr., Glenn Herbert
#37 took the checkered flag and won his life’s race on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. “Daddy” went home to be with the Lord, Mom, and those he loved who were waiting in Heaven. Dad loved the Lord, he loved people and he loved his church.
How many of his friends got a call on Friday afternoons to take the motor home and go out to eat? He was a Korean War veteran and two time state champion go-cart racer who built his own engines and mixed his own fuel. Dad loved to fish and float down the river with his “Brother” George Harvey, Sr., who he worked for and with for over 42 years. Thanks for everything “Big H”.
Dad was born a horse trader and enjoyed trading all the way to the end. He and Mom loved the beach and many times he would call from Harvey’s and say “I am on the way home, get ready and we’ll head for the beach…” and Mom was always ready when he got there. You, his friends, he loved deeply and cherished every relationship, and our family would like to say “thank you” to each and every one of you.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred W. Stike, and his parents, Glenn H. Stike, Sr., and Leo Wilcox Hopkins. Survivors include special friend, Adell Adkins; two daughters and son-in-law, Joannie Stike of Radford, and June S. and John Sayers of Snowville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Brenda Stike, and Glen E. “G.E.” Stike, all of Radford, and Guy and Susan Stike of Belspring; three sisters and brother-in-law, Judy and Russell Gordon of Belspring, and Nancy Houck and Dinah Stike, both of West Jefferson, NC; a brother, Meredith Stike of West Jefferson, NC; special sister-in-law, Geneva Webb of Belspring; 10 grandchildren Mike, Stacey, Jamie, Carrie, Emily, Glenn, Laura, Gary, Samantha and Guy; and 4 great-grandchildren Sebastian, Caleigh, Wyatt and Jeremiah.
