stewart jr mitchell darmonMitchell Darmon Stewart Jr., 88, of Narrows, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, March 26, 2012, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Mr. Stewart was born on May 13, 1923, in Narrows, and was a son of the late Mitchell Darmon Stewart Sr., and Helen Opal Skeens.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Ellen McCormick Stewart, two sons, Ronnie Stewart and David Stewart.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II in the 10th Chemical Warfare General Service Company, a retired pipefitter at the Celanese Corp. in Narrows, a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, a lifetime member of the VFW and he loved to fish and was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by one daughter, Deborah and Tony Parcell, of Wolf Creek; two daughters-in-law, Garnette Stewart, of Roanoke and Alice Stewart, of Pearisburg; five grandchildren, Brent Stewart, of Blacksburg, Nicholas Stewart, of Charlotte, N.C., Adrian, Emily, and Chris Parcell, of Wolf Creek, and six stepgrandchildren, Anthony, Scott, Nicole, Chris, Angie and John.

Funeral Services will be conducted at Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating, with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Friday evening at Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead from 6 to 8 p.m. The family is being served by Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg.
