stevers lindsey millerLindsey Miller Stevers, 86, of Pearisburg, departed this life on Thursday morning, March 28, 2013, in the care of Heritage Hall and hospice in Blacksburg. Born in Pembroke on March 29, 1927, he was a son of the late Leslie and Birdie Merrix Stevers. For over 40 years, Lindsey worked for Local 75, International Association of Bridge Structural Iron Workers. He was a member and lay speaker at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church; was a member of Pembroke Ruritan Club; and served on the Hoges Chapel Water Board and the Giles County Social Services Board. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Stevers; his sisters, Darence Kanode and Shelby Jean Chasteen; and his brother, Leslie Stevers. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary Thacker Stevers; his son, Lindsey Allen (Kathy) Stevers, of Peoria, Ariz.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Danny Long, of Max Meadows, and Susan and Bob Medsker, of Petosky, Mich.; his beloved stepson and his wife, Frederick Lee “Freddie” and Marchia Lee Thacker, of Townsend, Tenn.; his six grandchildren; and his seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with The Rev. Rob Lough officiating. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery near Pembroke. The family will receive friends one hour before the services at the funeral home. Following the graveside services a meal and celebration of Lindsey’s life will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church at Hoges Chapel near Pembroke. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to “Mary Stevers for Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church” in care of BB&T Bank at Pembroke.
