Bueland David (Blue Jay) Stevers, 81, of Big Branch Hollow Road, Pembroke, departed this life Saturday morning, July 26, 2008, at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek.

Born in Pembroke on April 29, 1927, he was a son of the late Dexter and Pricie Link Stevers. He was a veteran of the United States Army, World War II; was retired from Virginia Department of Transportation; and was the volunteer caretaker of the Fillinger, Martin, Lucas, and Snidow Cemeteries, in Pembroke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kathleen Whittaker; his brothers, Bill, Donald, and Russell Lee Stevers; and a nephew, Kermit Stevers. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Martha Ann Martin Stevers; his daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Lee Johnson, of Pembroke, Sharon and Paul Suydam, of Pearisburg; his grandchildren, Stacy Gillispie and wife, Tina, Gregory Gillispie, Lindsey Suydam, Taylor Suydam; his great-granddaughter, Kristen Gillispie; his brothers, John Stevers, of Florida, Gerald Stevers, of Pembroke, Wiley Stevers, of Pembroke, Lloyd Stevers, of Iowa; his sister, Lois Eppling, of Pembroke.

Memorial services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke.
