William Thomas Stevens Jr., 84, of Elliston, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Brooke Merritt Stevens; a brother, Richard Stevens; and sisters, Mary Virginia Horton (Ginny), Linda Agnus Bourne, Rose Ellen Kidd, Gracie Lee Thomas, and Edith Terry; and one stepson, George Edward Hanauer. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Worrell Stevens; stepsons, James Hanauer and wife, Tina, of Oklahoma, and Don Hanauer and wife, Marcelle, of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Angie Gist and husband, Matt, of Cary, N.C., Donald Hanauer II, of Christiansburg, James Hanauer and wife, Allison, of Collierville, Tenn., Tim Hanauer and wife, Juliet, of Fort Collins, Colo., Matt Hanauer and wife, Megan, of Denver, Colo., Elizabeth Shirley and husband, Nicholas, of Denver, Colo., Andrew Hanauer, of Denver, Colo., Tisra Denise Tom, of Stratford, Oklahoma, Casey and Auden Hanauer, of Collierville, Tenn., Landen Gist, of Cary, N.C., and Nicholas Shirley, of Denver, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family. Mr. Stevens served in the Army in World War II and was a D-Day Veteran. He enlisted again in the services for the reconstruction of Germany and England. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 25, 2011, from noon to 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Richard Kingrea presiding.
